Digital Content Creator Megan Gallie On Embracing Motherhood In The New Media Age

With the advent of new life comes the transition of who one is and the inspiration to become a better version of oneself through parenthood—a reality Megan Gallie, as a twenty-eight-year-old mother, can attest to. Born and bred in Cape Town, the Events Management graduate is a multifaceted digital content creator. With a passion for blogging, Megan specialises in beauty, travel, and lifestyle content.
“I have known Megan through social media for a few years. I approached her to do the Batswadi cover because I loved her pregnancy reveal video and wanted her to be a part of this cover as a new mom. I thoroughly enjoy her content and love her personality. I knew she would be a great fit. We met for the first time on set of this cover shoot,” shares Kutlwano Motla
For our latest cover feature, Kutlwano caught up with Megan to discuss all things motherhood and picked her brain on what it means to be a new mom in a world consumed by retweets, reels, posts, and pictures.
Kutlwano: How did your influencing /content creation journey begin?
Megan: I don’t really have a timeline per se, but it kind of just started randomly. I used to just post my life and activities on my platform, people thought it was cool and interesting and I guess from there, it just generated interest. Once I realised that I actually enjoy it and how I can actually use it as a career, I took it more seriously and now we’re here.
Kutlwano: How has motherhood impacted your influencing journey and the type of brands you agree to collaborate / work with?
Megan: To be honest, I’ve become more aware of how to use social media. I always told myself that when I become a mom, I’m leaving twitter because, honestly, it’s a toxic platform and I wanted to enjoy my pregnancy and the transition of becoming a mom in peace. I’ve also made a few changes in what I post and how I post. I try not to overshare, but I share enough to still be relatable to my audience.
Motherhood has made me more conscious about what I put out for people to see, and I won’t lie, it’s the best decision I could have made for myself. In terms of brand work, I took a step back when I was in my third trimester and really thought about how I want my brand to be like going forward and I really just want to work with brands that actually make sense to me and my new life. I’m no longer the same woman I was a year ago, so naturally, it only makes sense to elevate my brand to a different level.
Kutlwano: What are your thoughts about sharing your child on social media?
Megan: Never happening. Well, at least until she’s old enough to decide if that’s what she wants. I have nothing against others doing so, but it’s a personal choice for me. I’ve seen the nasty side of the internet and I don’t need my child getting exposed to that at such a young age.
Kutlwano: What would you say to yourself before you had your baby to prepare for what you are experiencing right now in your motherhood journey?
Megan: Relax, girl, it gets easier. There’s no such thing as a perfect mom. Just do what makes sense to you and your baby.
Kutlwano: Are you at peace with the content you have produced in the digital space for your child to see one day when they are older?
Megan: Yes, very much so. I always knew I was going to be a mother, so I always had it at the back of my mind to be careful what I put out there for people to see.
