Three Advantages Audiobooks Hold For the Mental Development Of Your Child

Share

When it comes to the development of a child’s vocab and speech, physical books always come to mind, and for good reason. However, audiobooks provide a good alternative as they allow children to be able to follow along with books that might have bigger words and more complex topics. Audiobooks are always handier as they are geared toward our faster lives overrun by social media.

Below are three advantages that audiobooks have for the mental growth of young children:

  1. Audiobooks Help Younger Children Digest Books That Would Be Otherwise Harder for Them To Read

According to Crosby Carroll, a reading specialist at The Children’s School in New York: “[The child will] be able to delve deeper into complicated topics and listen to better-quality books than [they] might find at [their] own level. That exposure strengthens comprehension skills, particularly for children who have reading difficulties.”

  1. Audiobooks Are Suitable For Kids With a Lower Attention Span

In the age of TikTok and Instagram reels, audiobooks are the perfect rival. According to an article on Everyday Reading: “Reading is a pretty stationary activity, but with an audiobook, they [the kids] can build with Legos, paint, or just run laps around the room.” So, audiobooks are necessary for those little ones that just can seem to keep still, much like when they have to take a dose of much-needed medicine.

  1. Audiobooks Can Be Used As A Sneaky Strategy to Get Children Interested In Great Books and “Classics”

Book editor Regan McMahon said: “Audiobooks can introduce kids to the classics. A lot of times they have old-fashioned language, and that kind of stops kids on the page. Whereas if you’re listening to some great actor or author or any kind of a talented narrator, the sophisticated language is not a barrier.”

By introducing your little one to classic literature via audiobooks, you can give them a headstart and impart taste. While kids their age will feel bogged down when it comes to reading these books in school, your child will simply be building on an established foundation. Plus, they will have a knack for recognising good writing and how to use language.
