#WorldToiletDay: SC Johnson, Duck Empower Tembisa Students With Heartfelt Toilet Revamp Project
Share
On this World Toilet Day, SC Johnson and Duck brand, in partnership with Tsogang NGO, have taken a bold step toward addressing a pressing issue: poor sanitation in township schools. The brand unveiled newly refurbished toilet facilities at Mashemong Primary School in Tembisa, marking the beginning of a long-term commitment to tackle toilet poverty in schools across the nation.
Mashemong Primary School, like many others in South African townships, has struggled with insufficient funding to maintain its critical sanitation facilities. Broken toilets, unreliable taps, and unhygienic conditions have posed health risks and affected the dignity of learners, particularly young girls.
“A school should be more than a place for education—it should be a safe haven where children are taught responsibility, self-respect, and the importance of hygiene,” said Lesego Segopolo, on behalf of the SC Johnson and Duck Brand. “Through this initiative, we aim to create cleaner, safer spaces for children to learn and grow.”
The unveiling ceremony was a moment of hope and inspiration for the school community. A beautifully designed mural, symbolizing growth, empowerment, and hygiene, was also revealed as part of the event. This initiative is just the first of many planned by Duck to restore dignity and promote health in schools.
“Providing clean, safe toilets in township schools should be a shared community mission. Together, we can help schools maintain proper sanitation and create a better environment for learners—one school at a time,” continued Lesego Segopolo.
Duck’s efforts aim to not only address immediate sanitation needs but also to raise awareness about the ongoing global sanitation crisis. The brand hopes to inspire individuals, organizations, and communities to come together and champion hygiene as a fundamental right for all.
