“Be Yourself, the world will adjust”: Mommy Club’s Happy Simelane on motherhood

Share

Mommy Club’s Happy Simelane has bared her soul on the reality TV show since day one. From the loss of her husband, her tumultuous relationship with her daughters, her engagement – she has been an open book that some have dubbed as the reality TV show’s real MVP.

Stepping into the show, the entrepreneur said she was never afraid of people’s opinions but instead her intentions were to give women a voice to tell their stories.

“I came to deliver, to make TV and share my journey. And that is exactly what I did,” she said.

Happy, together with four other Joburg’s IT mummies, have come together on Showmax’s reality TV show for a peep into their extravagant lives while also being super mummies.

Happy is a mother of three, and on the show has shown her

“I’m sure people can see that my parenting style is different. What motherhood means to me is you need to love with boundaries (in place), and it has taught me to be patient.

“I was raised by my grandmother and things were tough. I don’t know a mothers love. I cannot say I had the smoothest upbringing and you know how things get neglected when parents are not around. A mothers love in particular goes a very long way. I received much love from my grandmother but I have missed my real mother my entire life. I’m learning by day to be the best mom to my kids, I would do anything for my kids which is something I never had from anyone.

To be part of the show was about telling her story on an even broader platform where lessons can be drawn from her rather colourful life that she has led.

“I had no expectations when joining the show. I just wanted to be relatable and to be myself shamelessly with no fear. I want people to be their true selves through everything that they are going through.

“And going to therapy with my children on TV was yet another part of me that was unfiltered. And it (therapy) has done a lot. It has helped us start our healing journey and we’re doing great now. I do advise parents to consider therapy with their kids.”

With her colourful life, Happy has faced so many challenges – the death of her husband being at the pinnacle. Showing her life unfiltered, with all the exhaustion and pressures was important to her.

“Parents don’t get a break, we are the glue and people judge us a lot. They tend to forget that you are yourself before being a parent to someone. But I always advise people to be themselves and the world will adjust.”

About your girls, she said: “My dream for my girls is for them to prosper, be hardworking and to stand their ground. For them to be fearless like their mother and only fear God.”

She also shares that she has forged a budding friendship with Mrs. Mops, as they connect a lot offline. “And the viewers don’t like that,” she added.
