The Girl Squad Every New Mom Needs

Share

Few people can admit it, but being a new mom can be a lonely experience filled with dirty diapers, sleepless nights and hectic body changes. Whether you’re a single mom, co-parenting, or in a relationship, every new mother needs extra support to cope with the challenges that come with raising a baby. Surrounding yourself with a strong network of sisterly love and fun is the perfect way to get through the stresses of mommyhood.

Of course, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a woman. No matter what gender they are, it’s a good idea to reach out to your old friends, make new ones and keep your current ones to make for a diverse support group. Check out our list below to see if you have the squad members to help you through this tough, yet exciting time in your life.

Gossip Girl

Let’s just face the fact that you either no longer have access to your TV or that that’s going to be your reality soon enough. Even reading your favourite mags or book is a rare occasion. In this instance, your gossipy friend with all the hot tea is likely to be the perfect person to make up for the lack of entertainment in your life. When she’s over or if she calls make sure your little one is glued to the TV or out for a playdate.

Girl Next Door

Girl Next Door is your super helpful neighbour who’s willing to take your baby off your hands while you make a quick store run or when Gossip Girl is over for some tea. She’s the godsent friend who is incredibly reliable and knows you need help before you even realise it. You cherish your friendship with her and you know you’ll always have each other’s backs no matter what.

Super Mom

There’s absolutely nothing that Super Mom can’t get done. Super Mom is climbing the corporate ladder, she has a business that’s doing really well, her marriage looks perfect, her children are stellar students and she looks stunning all the time. Of course, she’s not perfect, but there’s a lot you can learn from her if you’re not green with envy. By merely watching her, you’ll notice that her success partly stems from her strong support network, her assertiveness and her determination. You may also gather many other lessons that could inspire you to reach your goals and follow your dreams. Remember to learn from her, but to not pressure yourself to be perfect.

Easy-Going Friend

You need that friend that reminds you that life doesn’t always have to be intense. When you’re a mom, it’s easy to worry about every little issue that comes your way. The laid back friend often puts things into perspective, isn’t afraid to kick back, relax and prioritise me-time. If you’re going through a problem that’s making you panic, she’s the perfect friend to talk you down and help you solve the issue more effectively.

Party Girl

This friend seems to forget that you’re a new mom. She somehow has the idea that you can go out on a whim and drink alcohol whenever you feel like it. Despite being painfully oblivious to your new life, she’s really great at bringing you out of your mommy-shell and showing you a good night out.  She’ll remind you that there are other sides to you outside of your mom and/or working life persona.

Queen of Talk

If you’ve been bottling up all your emotions for a while now, you need someone who’s not only good at listening but someone who’s good at talking about things candidly and with depth. Queen of Talk is as open to you as you are to her. She offers sage advice and you never feel judged when you’re being open with her. You’re likely to talk for hours on end and you’re sure to feel much better when you’re done talking.
