Clueless Moms’ Learn and Play to kick off its first event series in August

Share

CLUELESS Moms founder Dr Katlego Lekalakala said their upcoming event, ‘Learn and Play’ is the beginning of a series of events that are designed to further empower this community of moms that her organisation has created over the past couple of years.

This first of the many to come aims to inform parents on how to manage the common skin condition, Eczema, while their children play. The jam packed event will be all that and more, educating parents – which is at the core of the organisation’s mandate.

This third event under the organisation will see professionals speak on the topic of eczema, from dermatologist hailing from the event’s partner brand Bioderma, an influencer who will speak on mothering a child with eczema, among other things.

“The reason why I came up with the concept is because I’m now in my toddler stage. So this means I too grow with my events. And I can also imagine that the people that started with me, where we were either pregnant or had just given birth, are also in the toddler stage. At the core of Clueless Moms is to educate so I had to come up with an event that would speak to who we are while also supporting mothers in letting their hair down,” she said.

She emphasizes that Learn and Play is not only about eczema but will cover an array of topics as they unfold.

The bespoke intimate event will also serve a three course lunch, coupled by expert and passionate talks on eczema, networking opportunities to grow ecosystems of support and a chance to play and have fun.

Among the speakers is Meagan Olevano, Bioderma’s Head of Brand and Medical Marketing. Meagan’s expertise alongside Specialist Dermatologist, Dr Bonolo Mushiana will guide attendees through the proper use and benefits of Bioderma’s Atoderm range, equipping parents with practical tips and advice on caring for atopic skin.

On what inspired the beginning of Clueless Moms, she said: “I didn’t want anybody to face the trauma that comes with motherhood, whether it be pregnancy or the postpartum, in isolation. I was sharing my pregnancy journey and that garnered me a lot of support. It is there that I recognised that there are other women that needed the same support that I needed. I decided to create a community out of that, which first began as a whatsapp group where we would just share our stories, regardless that I still shared my journey online.

“The Clueless Moms community consists of women who want to better themselves to be better mothers and be the best version of themselves, and that is what we have always aspired to achieve,” she said.

Dr Lekalakala aims for Clueless Moms to get to a point where she is able to use her expertise and connections to make the lives of moms easier.

“If that one day means I’ll have a charity or foundation, or opening a midwifery unit or school – as long as it is in the betterment of moms and their journey. I just know that what I am trying to build towards is always finding ways to make the lives of black women in South Africa easier in their perinatal and parenting,” she said.
